Job description

Position Summary:

The Town of Andover seeks caring and dependable individuals to provide companionship and meaningful engagement to older residents through Elder Services' CompanionCare Program. Under the direction of the Director of Elder Services and the Services Coordinator, Home Companions offer social interaction, light meal prep, cognitive activities, and emotional support to seniors in their homes. Some companions may also provide supported transportation to and from medical appointments (mileage reimbursed).

  • Provide home visits with engaging conversation, arts and crafts, puzzles, or walks
  • Assist with simple meals and snacks when scheduled during visit hours
  • Monitor client engagement and adjust activities to meet individual needs
  • Complete activity notes and report any concerns to the Elder Services team
  • Collaborate with staff in the case of behavioral changes or emergency situations
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • One year of experience in social services, healthcare, elder care, or related setting
  • Compassion, patience, and the ability to communicate effectively with older adults
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • CPR and First Aid certification required upon hire

Visits occur in private homes; role involves physical activity and occasional lifting. Hours vary and are scheduled based on participant need and availability.
