Job summary

Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a dedicated American Sign Language medical interpreter at Salem Hospital to ensure accurate and timely communication for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind and LEP patients across shifts.

This per diem, unscheduled role within the Language Access department requires RID certification, a bachelor's or equivalent, and at least one year of medical interpretation; you will triage requests, support ADA/ ACA compliance, and participate in staff development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or RID equivalency
• RID National Interpreter Certification required
• One year of medical interpretation

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, accurate ASL and spoken-language interpretation to support medical communication.
• Triage and prioritize multiple language-access requests and coordinate interpreting services.
• Collaborate with care teams to advise on communication needs and ensure ADA/ACA compliance.
• Proactively round on Deaf and LEP patients to promote appropriate use of interpreter services.
• Maintain professional communication with staff and support continuous department goals.
• Engage in professional development, assist new interpreters, and participate in Lean projects.
