Qualifications

Certification: RID, NIC, or equivalent national certification.
2+ years of professional ASL interpreting experience in medical/healthcare settings.
Fluency in American Sign Language and English (native or near-native).
Strong understanding of HIPAA and PHI protection.

Responsibilities

Provide accurate, impartial in-person ASL interpretation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients during scheduled clinical appointments.
Interpret complex medical terminology, clinical discussions, treatment options, and provider instructions accurately.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy standards in all interactions.
Log and confirm assignment schedules with advance notice (typically 72+ hours).
Provide contingency Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) coverage when in-person interpretation is not feasible.
