Job summary

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in California seeks a Per Diem physician to oversee medical services at our treatment sites. You may consult outside physicians, refer as needed, and act as a liaison between nursing and medical staff while in treatment.

The role includes on-call duties with the medical team, supervising Nurse Practitioners and allied health professionals, performing admission histories and exams, prescribing medications, ordering labs, and ensuring a safe environment for patients

Qualifications

• Doctorate (MD or DO) required.
• NPI (National Provider Identification) required.
• Board certification in internal medicine, family practice, emergency room medicine, or addiction medicine required.
• DEA license required.
• Current BLS certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association) required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and provide appropriate medical services at Hazelden Betty Ford, may include consultation with outside physicians and referral as needed.
• Act as a liaison between nursing and the medical staff, and provide education related to medical issues for patients in treatment.
• Participate in on-call duties with other members of the medical team.
• Provide supervision to Nurse Practitioners and allied health professionals.
• Perform admission medical history and physical exams within 24 hours of admission.
• Prescribe non-controlled medications and controlled substances.
• Supervise patients regarding detoxification and other medical issues.
• Order and interpret lab tests.
• Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, guests and visitors.
