Puyallup Tribe of Indians seeks a Representative Payee to work with vulnerable tribal members and manage monthly payments to beneficiaries. The role prioritizes beneficiaries’ current and future needs and requires sound judgment and confidentiality.
Level I handles routine duties and Level II serves as a lead, handling complex, confidential matters, with regular deadlines and cross-department coordination in a tribal program setting.

Responsible for working in collaboration with the most vulnerable members of the Puyallup Tribe to provide assistance to manage monthly payments on behalf of the Tribal Member beneficiary. The Representative Payee is responsible for meeting with and knowing the needs of the beneficiary, and acting in the best interests of the beneficiary to ensure that benefits received from the Tribe are used for the beneficiary’s current and/or future needs.
Level I is expected to handle moderately complex work assignments and disseminates accurate information to clients. Sound judgment and the ability to establish priorities to determine the best methods to accomplish work is expected. Application of general office fundamentals including operating office equipment, basic math and the ability to follow written and oral instructions is expected.
Level II is considered a Lead position and deals with highly complex and confidential and sensitive matters and is expected to act as a resource to others; work assignments involve creative thinking and the ability to make non-routine decisions. Interruptions and changing priorities are regular occurrences and tight deadlines create job challenges.
Level II: All of the essential duties and responsibilities of Level I, plus:
Level I has no supervisory responsibilities, may assist with training of other Payees. Level II will act as a lead worker to Level I Payees. Level II will train, assign cases, and will serve as a resource to others within the department and may occasionally act as supervisor when the supervisor is unavailable.

Level I: High School Diploma required and two years of related experience in a related field.
Level II: Associates Degree in Social Services or a related field and four years of related experience in case aide support work in a Native American community, including previous experience in acting as a Representative Payee;
Or satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
Level I and II are required to have intermediate knowledge of word processing and database programs is required (Word, Excel and Access). Must be able to accurately use the computer to produce word processing, spreadsheets and database documents as required by Supervisor. Use of Ceridian or ADP is preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret governmental regulations and those documents for which the beneficiary may need assistance. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from beneficiary, his/her family, Tribal representatives and those individuals/businesses doing business with the beneficiary.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
