Job summary

Rook Coffee Roasters is seeking a Director of People to lead all HR functions across eleven retail locations and our production operation. You will partner with leadership to build systems, culture, and practices that support about 200 team members and reflect our mission to make people feel special.

This hands-on, strategic role reports to ownership and requires a proactive, people-first mindset, with responsibility for recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, performance, and safety.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including 2+ years in leadership.
• Strong knowledge of NJ employment law and I-9 compliance.
• Experience with HRIS, payroll, and ATS tools (Lever a plus).

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end recruitment and onboarding.
• Oversee HRIS, payroll, benefits and compliance.
• Lead performance management and compensation.
• Foster culture and employee relations across multiple locations.
• Ensure safety, workers’ compensation and leaves of absence programs.
