Job summary

Municipal Employees' Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago seeks a Benefit Accountant to reconcile annuity benefit payroll and verify new annuitant data. The role interfaces with the benefit, member service and IT departments to ensure accurate payroll processing and deductions.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and at least five years of accounting experience, with strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Dynamics-Great Plains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and Dynamics-Great Plains.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile monthly annuity benefit payroll and confirm changes including deaths, health insurance costs and deductions.
• Verify new annuitant data (New Business Summary Report) with SSN, tax info, service years, COLA date and payment details.
• Review and approve monthly transmission files to the custodial bank for new annuitants.
• Handle overpayments and adjust tax payments with the custodial bank.
• Coordinate with IT on health insurance provider data for Medicare and Non-Medicare deductions.
• Reconcile health insurance deductions and insurance liability accounts.
