PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee (Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee)

Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee. This full-time position offers a comprehensive six-month training program designed to prepare you for advancement to the Transportation Equipment Operator A classification. Position Overview

This trainee role involves operating highway construction and maintenance equipment, along with manual labor duties on highway or bridge maintenance crews. Training will cover licensing and certification for heavy construction equipment operation, including:

• Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA)
• Loader (LD) with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less

You will learn to perform safety checks, make necessary adjustments, operate various controls, and handle tire chains on dual wheels.

Work Schedule and Additional Details

• Full-time employment with hours from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch.
• Overtime, dual shifts, and travel may be required; work hours may vary seasonally.
• Telework is not available for this position.
• Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must:

• Possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
• Obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
• Hold a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day.

Additional conditions include:

• Operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
• Subject to drug and alcohol testing as per federal regulations.
