Job description

Peer Tutors are responsible for providing academic assistance to undergraduate students in select coursework. Tutoring is not teaching, but rather supplemental learning for students needing additional assistance with course content. Tutors may also be required for sophomore/junior acute care courses. The peer tutoring program at OHSU utilizes both group and one-on-one tutoring to assist students with course topics.

The OHSU School of Nursing cannot guarantee a minimum number of paid hours per term for this position. All efforts will be made to ensure that interested tutors are receiving some paid hours each term, however, this may fluctuate due to both the tutor's schedule and the needs of undergraduate students.

Responsibilities
  • Exhibit professional behavior and adhere to confidentiality requirements
  • Review and abide by the Tutoring Code of Ethics
  • Work with students in both group and individual settings
  • Have availability to meet with students for a minimum of 2 hours per week throughout the academic year (hours and times may vary between terms)
  • The more hours tutors are available, the more likely they will be utilized and matched for group and individualized sessions.
  • Submit anticipated availability for hours when applying.
  • Communicate with the tutoring coordinator as soon as possible if this changes during the term
  • Coach students on study skills, note-taking, organization, and time management
  • Communicate with professors regarding individual student needs and progress
  • Maintain records of tutoring activities including timekeeping and tutoring notes
Required Qualifications
  • Enrollment in the OHSU Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours, junior or senior level)
  • Maintain an OHSU GPA of at least 3.0
  • Recommendation of an OHSU faculty member currently teaching coursework for pathophysiology, pharmacology, and/or acute care courses
  • Must maintain active enrollment at OHSU SON
  • Possess the ability and willingness to work with individuals and groups of students from diverse cultural, economic, and academic backgrounds
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship
  • Good academic and student conduct standing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Due to scheduling, this post is most suitable to those starting junior year in fall 2026 – Monmouth Campus
