Job summary

The Community Service Board of Middle Georgia in Swainsboro, GA is hiring a Peer Support Worker. You will provide recovery support to individuals identifying as in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders and connect them with local recovery communities and services.

Travel within the service area is required. Responsibilities include maintaining records, offering peer support, facilitating relationships with mutual aid groups, and leading peer sessions while upholding CARES values and

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Be in long-term recovery from substance use.
  • Must obtain CARES Certification within 1 year and maintain CEUs each year.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Keep and maintain accurate records following team leadership guidance, including ASO submissions.
  • Provide peer support to individuals who have experienced challenges with substance use or misuse in ARSC.
  • Facilitate development of relationships with individuals, support/mutual aid groups, and service providers when appropriate.
  • Follow-up with peers according to care plan and manage boundaries.
  • Support families and allies of individuals in recovery when applicable.
  • Provide information and education regarding the recovery process.
  • Uplift CARES values and foster a spirit of recovery among peers and community.
  • Lead various afternoon, night and group/individual peer sessions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: Swainsboro, Georgia

The Community Service Board of Middle Georgia's is seeking a qualified individual to serve as our next Peer Support Worker. This person will be responsible for providing recovery support services, as outlined in the service definition, to people that self-identify as being in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders. This person will uphold the culture, principles, and values of recovery in all aspects of services provided to individuals, family members, friends, and allies. This person will provide connections to local recovery communities within the ARSC, as well as treatment and recovery support services outside of the ARSC in the community. Travel within assigned service area is required.

Responsibilities of the Peer Support Worker:
  • Keep and maintain accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with guidance provided by team leadership. Including ASO submissions.
  • Provide peer support to persons who have experienced challenges with substance use or misuse in ARSC.
  • Provide information and facilitate development of relationships with individuals, support/mutual aid groups, and service providers when appropriate.
  • Follow-up when peers agree with care plan, managing boundaries in relationships and making adjustments in accordance with guidance provided by team leadership.
  • When applicable, provide support to families and allies of people that self-identify as being in recovery or who have challenges with substance use.
  • Supplies peers with information and education regarding the recovery process
  • Exemplifies CARES values and uplifts a spirit of recovery with peers, team members, and community members.
  • Lead various afternoon, night and individual group/individual peer sessions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Here are some of the things we require:
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Be in long term-recovery from substance use
  • Must obtain the Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES) Certification within ONE (1) year of employment, per DBHDD requirement and maintain certification by completing the required twelve (12) continuing education units each year that includes one CARES Connect per year.
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Office Products
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines accordingly
