Job summary

The State of Washington’s Behavioral Health Treatment Center at Maple Lane Campus in Grand Mound is seeking a Peer Support Specialist with lived recovery experience. The role supports residents in navigating recovery processes, advocating for self‑care, and linking them to community resources.

Flexible shifts include Tue, Wed, and Thu partially, with responsibilities across crisis intervention, wellness planning, and collaboration with treatment teams.

Qualifications

  • Requires two years of college with emphasis in social sciences and two years of psychiatric/mental health or health-care setting experience.
  • Or one year as Behavioral Health Specialist 1.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology or related field preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clients with expertise about recovery, symptom management, and persistence.
  • Maintain professional boundaries while serving as peer and MAPL MLFRP employee.
  • Guide residents to participate in their own wellness or recovery plans.
  • Share experiences to inspire hope and recovery goals.
  • Maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention certification or equivalent de‑escalation training.
  • Offer coaching on transition from hospital to community and money/medical management.
  • Help residents understand rights and assist with grievances and resolutions.
  • Link residents to community resources and advocacy groups.
  • Provide consultation on treatment planning and crisis intervention.
  • Educate residents to find a primary care physician and other specialists.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
