Peer Support Specialist I

Job Type: Full-Time / Non-Exempt

Shift: 7:00am-7:30pm, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & every other Wednesday

Location: Crisis - RRC, Onsite, Newark DE

Salary: $18.00 without DE Peer Certification; $21.00 with DE Peer Certification

Specialties / Certifications: Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and obtaining certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.

Provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services, assists in implementing a recovery environment, and advocates for each individual’s needs and rights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Guest Care & Advocacy
    • Provides peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
    • Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
    • Models hope, personal responsibility and self‑advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
    • Assists in developing natural supports and community living.
    • Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Completes clinical documentation as required.
    • Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
    • Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration
    • Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.
  • Additional Duties
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Education/Licenses:
    • Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and obtaining certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
  • Skills:
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Must be able to pass de‑stabilization training, as defined by state requirements.
  • Driving Requirements:
    • If driving is required, must meet all requirements in Recovery Innovations driving policy.
    • Non‑driver must sign a Non‑Driver Attestation form.
  • Miscellaneous Requirements:
    • Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless state regulations set a different minimum.
    • Travel required based on business need.
    • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines) and professionalism.
    • Second‑Chance Employer: Must pass a seven‑year background check, substance abuse testing, fingerprinting clearance, education verification, and if driving, a three‑year motor vehicle report and insurer criteria.
Physical Demands

Might include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye‑hand‑foot coordination; use of auditory senses; may be required to lift up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

Might work in an office environment or behavioral health facility. May have contact with agitated and/or confused individuals. A remotely based Warmline Peer Support Specialist will work off‑site.

Addendum – Arizona

Must be 21 years or older. Required to attend court hearings when listed as a witness on a petition.

Addendum – California

Must obtain Certified Medi‑Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification within thirty days. Art‑related experience required for the Art Works program.

Addendum – Louisiana

Must be 24 years or older.

Addendum – North Carolina – Peer Navigator

Proof of valid & unrestricted Driver’s License; proof of up‑to‑date vaccination records, including childhood vaccinations. Must provide proof of personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of $100,000 in bodily injury or property damage.

Addendum – Washington

Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC).
