Job summary

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide mental health support to individuals connected with Horizons in Reno County. This role emphasizes empowering recovery, offering direct services, and coordinating care with community partners.

Role requires self-identification as a present or former consumer of mental health services, a high school diploma, and a commitment to stable recovery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18+ and at least three years older than the youth.
  • Peer Support Specialist self-identify as present or former consumer of mental health services.
  • Minimum of one year in stable recovery.
  • State training as identified; valid driver’s license, insurance and dependable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supportive services to individuals with mental health symptoms.
  • Assist clients in generating proactive solutions to barriers regarding their recovery.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Complete trainings and attend meetings as directed.
  • Participate in care coordination to collaborate with community partners and providers.
  • Maintain HIPAA privacy and security in all PHI-related duties.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and care teams.

Peer Support Specialist - Horizons - PT
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct supportive services to individuals with mental health symptoms
  • Assist clients in generating proactive solutions to barriers regarding their recovery
  • Complete documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Complete trainings and attend meetings as directed
  • Participate in care coordination to collaborate with community partners, caregivers, family members, physicians and other treatment providers regularly
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI)
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public
General Responsibilities:

People Management Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age and at least three years older than the youth
  • This unique position requires that a Peer Support Specialist Self-identify as a present or former primary consumer of mental health services
  • Minimum of one year in stable recovery
  • Required License/Certifications/Registrations State training as identified
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance and a dependable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred Education and Experience Two years’ experience working with adults in a health-related field
  • Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations BHS Certification for Peer Support Specialists in Kansas (KDADS)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Ability to develop and mentor others
  • Oral communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, problem-solving skills
Physical Requirements:

With or without accommodation. Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
