Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to empower pregnant and parenting participants through one-to-one support and collaborative planning across clinical and community settings.

You will work with diverse teams, document services, and advocate within medical systems while upholding trauma-informed principles and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Identifies as having lived experience in recovery with SUD and/or mental health challenges.
  • Understanding trauma-informed care, recovery, and consumer involvement.
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification or MHACBO CRM or able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Birth or Postpartum Doula Certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Experience with diverse populations and cultures.
  • Criminal background check and pre-hire drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one peer support to diverse individuals.
  • Collaborate with participants to create Person Directed Plans.
  • Participate in peer support supervision sessions.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attend meetings and advocate for participant needs.
  • Explore wellness strategies and community resources with participants.
  • Support crisis de-escalation and next steps planning.
  • Document support services and maintain records in the program database.
  • Meet metrics and contract deliverables.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethics as a recovery role model.
  • Follow safety, fire, and evacuation procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Provide one-to-one peer support to diverse individuals served
  • Collaborate with participants to create Person Directed Plans supporting individualized recovery journeys
  • Participate in peer support supervision sessions
  • Collaborate with service providers and interdisciplinary teams to support participant plans and recovery journeys
  • Attend meetings and advocate for participant needs
  • Help participants explore wellness strategies and identify community resources
  • Support participants in crisis de-escalation and next-step planning
  • Document support services in a program database and maintain accurate records
  • Meet metric-based performance expectations and contract deliverables
  • Act as a positive recovery and wellness role model while maintaining professional boundaries and ethics
  • Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements
  • Meet participants in OHSU clinics, groups, homes, hospitals, and community settings
  • Support engagement with obstetric/maternity care, addiction treatment, DHS child welfare, and family adjustment needs
  • Coordinate care with OHSU providers, addiction counselors, and social workers
  • Participate in hospital- and clinic-based recovery/maternity groups
  • Assist with research activities, including outcome measurements, surveys, visit logging, and research meetings
  • Provide education to reduce non-emergent ER use
  • Advocate for pregnant and parenting participants within medical systems and the community
  • Follow safety, fire, and evacuation procedures
  • Complete other relevant duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Identifies as having lived experience in recovery with substance use disorder (SUD) and/or mental health challenges
  • At least 24 months of continuous, sustained recovery with SUD and/or mental health challenges before employment
  • At least 2 years of continuous addiction recovery required if identifying with SUD/addiction lived experience
  • Understands the principles of trauma-informed care, recovery, and consumer involvement
  • Lived experience of SUD challenges as it relates to pregnancy, parenting, and/or DHS child welfare involvement
  • Peer Support Specialist (OHA Traditional Health Worker certification) or MHACBO CRM certification required or able to be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance required
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle required
  • Birth or Postpartum Doula certification required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Typing and general technology skills, including email and Microsoft Teams
  • Ability to push/pull/lift/carry items up to 25 pounds
  • Strong interest and ability to work with pregnant and parenting people
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
  • Professional demeanor with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary medical team
  • Willingness to work a variable work schedule if needed
  • Criminal background check and pre-hire drug screening required
  • Must maintain continuous recovery and abstinence during employment if serving in a recovery-focused role with lived SUD experience
