Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated Child Welfare Specialist in Texas to provide ongoing support for children and foster families. You’ll use evidence-based methods (TBRI, TFTC) and collaborate with a treatment team to implement skills and plans, while monitoring emotional and behavioral needs in the field.

The role emphasizes crisis readiness, documentation, and strong communication, with an average 40-hour work week and some office duties. Strong ethics and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Human Services, or related area required.
  • Two years of personal and/or professional experience working with children diagnosed with behavioral and emotional disorders.
  • Working knowledge of the needs of children placed in substitute care.
  • Ability to support agency culture, growth, and success through communication, accountability, and positivity.
  • Clear criminal background check and TB test current within 12 months prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of skills and concepts created by the treatment team.
  • Assess, support, and augment children’s emotional, psychological, and physical needs.
  • Observe, monitor, and direct families and children in following individualized treatment/service plans.
  • Document changes in behavior or symptoms of dysregulation.
  • Maintain one week of on-call crisis readiness on a rotating basis.
  • Work primarily in the field with some office responsibilities, averaging 40 hours per week.

Job description

  • Provide ongoing support for the child and foster family through empathetic and insightful conversation
  • Reinforce, model, and engage children or adolescents using evidence-based practices such as TBRI and Together Facing the Challenge
  • Support implementation of skills and concepts created by the treatment team
  • Provide backup for PTFFC program staff when needed
  • Assess, support, and augment children’s emotional, psychological, and physical needs
  • Make recommendations regarding needed support and changes to educational support
  • Assist with homework, celebrate success, and support social behavior and life skills
  • Teach and guide families in implementing daily activity schedules, including chores, schoolwork, and recreation
  • Observe, monitor, and direct families and children in following individual service/treatment plans
  • Document changes in behavior or symptoms of dysregulation
  • Facilitate family outings that may be stressful for the child or adolescent
  • Coach children and families in TBRI and TFTC skills in accordance with individualized treatment/service plans
  • Instruct children in basic life and social skills and routines
  • Mentor and support children and PTFFC parents through difficult transitions
  • Maintain one week of on-call crisis readiness on a rotating basis
  • Report to the Program Manager; maintain an average caseload of 10–12 clients
  • Work primarily in the field with some office responsibilities, averaging 40 hours per week
Requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Human Services, or related area required
  • Two years of personal and/or professional experience working with children diagnosed with behavioral and emotional disorders
  • Working knowledge of the needs of children placed in substitute care
  • Ability to support the agency's culture, growth, and success through communication, accountability, and positivity
  • Ability to be clear-headed and decisive based on the scope of the position

  • Valid Texas Driver's License (Type C) and at least three years of driving experience

  • Cleared criminal background check and signed statements regarding felony indictments/convictions
  • Cleared TB test results, current within 12 months prior to employment
  • Cleared pre-employment drug test
