Job summary

Sirona Recovery is seeking a Peer Support Specialist in Juneau, Alaska to utilize their lived experience with substance use and mental health to support clients in overcoming barriers to recovery. Responsibilities include providing emotional support, assisting clients with housing and employment issues, and collaborating with treatment staff to deliver evidence-based interventions. The ideal candidate will have personal experience with sobriety, relevant certifications, and strong communication skills. Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with individuals from diverse identities.

Job description

The Peer Support Specialist uses their own lived experience with substance use, mental health challenges, and recovery to support clients in overcoming barriers to achieving their recovery goals while engaged in various levels of treatment in Dodge County. The Peer Support Specialist meets one-on-one with clients in various community settings to develop and support recovery goals.

Through engagement and developing rapport, the Peer Support Specialist provides emotional support, compassionate listening, and community resource navigation. In collaboration with clinical staff, this position delivers evidence-based interventions to promote recovery. The Peer Support Specialist assists clients with issues related to housing, transportation, developing a social network, crisis support, personal and system advocacy, education, and employment in line with their recovery goals. To support clients’ self-advocacy, the Peer Support Specialist attends mental health and other provider appointments as needed. This position facilitates communication with other team members and encourages connection with natural supports and community involvement.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with OTC, CCS, and Dodge County staff to deliver interventions to promote recovery aligned with best practices
  • Provide emotional support, compassionate listening, and community resource navigation
  • Assist with issues related to housing, transportation, developing a social network, crisis support, personal and system advocacy, education, and employment
  • Develop and follow WRAP plans and recovery-focused goals
  • Support clients’ self-advocacy and attend mental health and other provider appointments as needed
  • Prepare for and attend service plan meetings
  • Complete documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Empower clients through strength-based interactions and support
  • Help court-involved clients build skills, confidence, and structure to successfully manage legal responsibilities and move toward recovery goals
  • Collaborate with case managers & legal partners (within confidentiality guidelines) to promote client stability, engagement, and successful outcomes
  • Encourage connection with natural supports and community involvement to work towards recovery goals
  • Engage in outreach, marketing, and education to promote program participation
  • Other duties as assigned that are consistent with the role of a Certified Peer Support Specialist
Competencies and Skills
  • Knowledge of best practices and approaches with peer support in mental health and AODA recovery
  • Maintain confidentiality, ethics, boundaries, and other adherence to the Certified Peer Support Specialist Code of Ethics
  • Knowledge of community resources related to mental health, AODA recovery, healthcare, and employment
  • Prior experience working with individuals from diverse economic, racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ+ identities
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Understanding of and experience providing services using person-centered, Trauma-Informed Care, and harm reduction approaches
  • Basic computer skills required, including use of Microsoft Office products and ability to learn
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Personal experience with successful sobriety and/or recovery for at least the last year
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist through the State of Wisconsin
  • Pre-employment background check is required
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile with insurance
