Job summary

Johnson County Government is seeking a Full-Time Peer Support Driver in the Transportation Department at the Shawnee location. The driver supports clients in their recovery, transports them to work, school and medical appointments, and identifies as a client of mental health services to model coping skills.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent and one year in human services; a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a human services field.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.
• Certification in peer support preferred.
• Education may be substituted for experience.

Responsibilities

• Transports clients to/from work, school and medical appointments.
• Uses in-vehicle software and pre-trip safety checks; maintains vehicle readiness.
• Serves as a role model by identifying as a client of mental health services.
• Provides coaching and guidance to help clients develop coping skills and independence.
• Responds to crises and monitors individuals’ mental and physical condition.
