Job summary

Johnson County Government is hiring a Full-Time Peer Support Driver in Shawnee, KS. This role supports the Mental Health transportation program, assisting clients to appointments and activities while modeling recovery and coping skills.

A current driver’s license with a clean record is required, and the position emphasizes compassionate client interaction and crisis response. The successful candidate will work a Monday through Friday schedule from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with primary driving duties

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.
One year of experience in human services required.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
Certification in peer support preferred.
Education may be substituted for experience.

Responsibilities

Transports clients to/from work, school and medical appointments using county vehicles; arrives on time and safely while following traffic laws.
Uses in-vehicle software to navigate routes; performs pre-trip checks; maintains ride and payment records; coordinates vehicle maintenance.
Acts as a role model by identifying as a client of mental health services to help clients develop coping skills.
Provides guidance on skills to enable productive lives and helps develop plans to regain independence.
Monitors individuals' mental and physical condition and provides crisis interventions when needed.
