The Peer Specialist role provides individual peer support to people experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges. Using lived experience, Peer Specialists promote recovery, provide advocacy, offer trauma-informed support, and help individuals build the skills and confidence needed to achieve their personal goals.

What You’ll Do

As a Peer Specialist, you will:

  • Provide peer support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions.
  • Use your lived experience to encourage hope, recovery, and personal growth.
  • Assist clients in developing coping skills, wellness strategies, and recovery goals.
  • Facilitate peer recovery and support groups.
  • Support individuals in achieving goals related to housing, employment, and community integration.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of person-centered treatment plans.
  • Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Advocate for individuals receiving services and support their self-determination.
  • Help clients prepare for recovery planning meetings and effectively communicate their needs.
  • Educate staff and team members on recovery-oriented care and peer support principles.
  • Conduct outreach and provide ongoing engagement and support.
  • Provide crisis intervention support as assigned.
  • Assist with assessments, wellness planning, and recovery-focused services.

Qualifications
Required
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Certification.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with underserved populations.
Schedule
  • Part-Time
  • Flexible schedule based on program needs
  • May include evenings, weekends, or holidays as required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist individuals as needed.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
