Job summary

Resources for Human Development is seeking a compassionate PEER SPECIALIST to provide peer support for clients with mental health and/or substance use conditions. You will use your lived experience to promote recovery, advocate for clients, and deliver trauma-informed support within an interdisciplinary team.

The role emphasizes developing coping skills, assisting with housing and employment goals, and participating in treatment planning and outreach efforts.

Qualifications

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with underserved populations preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions.
  • Use lived experience to support individuals in their recovery journey.
  • Assist clients with developing coping skills and wellness strategies.
  • Support individuals in achieving personal goals (housing, employment, community integration).
  • Assist in developing and implementing person-centered treatment plans.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide advocacy and support for individuals receiving services.
  • Assist clients in preparing for recovery plan meetings and expressing their needs.
  • Provide education to team members on recovery-oriented care and peer support principles.
  • Engage clients through outreach and ongoing support.
  • Provide crisis intervention services as scheduled.
  • Assist in completing assessments and wellness plans.

The Peer Specialist role exists to provide individual peer support to clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use conditions by using lived experience to promote recovery, offer advocacy, and deliver trauma-informed support. The position contributes to an interdisciplinary team by providing insight, guidance, and support that helps individuals navigate their recovery, build coping skills, and achieve personal goals.

What You’ll Do
