We're Hiring: Peer Specialist (2 Openings) | Full-Time | 100% Field-Based in NYC

Are you a certified Peer Specialist with lived experience and a passion for helping others reclaim their independence and wellness? Want to make a real difference in the lives of New Yorkers navigating mental health and substance use challenges?

We’re one of the largest and most respected managed care organizations in New York City, proudly serving over 700,000 members across all five boroughs. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of the country’s largest public health system, we’re backed by an extensive network of 27,000+ providers and offer a wide range of behavioral and physical health services—especially to those who need it most.

We’re currently expanding our team and seeking two Peer Specialists who will work fully in the field, helping members directly in their communities. If you're NYCPS certified (or provisionally certified and working toward full certification), we want to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide 1:1 peer support for members with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
  • Use your own recovery journey to support and guide others—offering compassion, shared experience, and practical resources
  • Collaborate with care teams and behavioral health managers to build recovery plans and empower members
  • Assist with housing applications, doctor appointments, community navigation, and crisis intervention
  • Support members involved in the justice system or navigating re-entry
  • Facilitate group dialogues, advocate against stigma, and teach vital life and social skills
  • Document member progress using electronic health records (EMR)
  • Join interdisciplinary team meetings, clinical rounds, and discharge planning discussions

What You Bring:

  • NY Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) required
  • (Provisional certifications are welcomed—supervised hours will be provided!)
  • 5+ years’ experience in behavioral health or equivalent training/education
  • Understanding of the recovery process, social determinants of health, and mental health systems
  • Comfort with tools like Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and EMRs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred—but all languages welcome!
  • Strong communication skills, empathy, and passion for helping others succeed

Why You’ll Love It Here:

  • Work for a mission-first organization that prioritizes people over profit
  • Direct, in-the-field impact on the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers
  • Be part of a diverse, compassionate, and forward-thinking team
  • Grow your career in one of the most trusted names in community healthcare

Work Setting: 100% Field-Based – all five boroughs

Schedule: Full-time, with flexible hours

If you believe in the power of peer support and recovery, and you’re ready to bring your life experience and heart to a team that values it—this could be the start of your most meaningful role yet.
