Job summary

Summit County Public Health in Akron, OH is seeking a Peer Recovery Supporter to work full-time (35 hours/week) in our Harm Reduction program. The role provides peer-based support to individuals in recovery, helps connect clients to health care and community resources, and delivers harm reduction services such as syringe exchange, naloxone distribution, and overdose education.

The position requires a high school diploma, 2–3 years of relevant experience, and the ability to obtain certification

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years volunteer or paid experience in a peer recovery support position.
• Certification as a Peer Recovery Supporter or able to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide strengths-based, peer-to-peer support to individuals in recovery to promote healthy choices and long-term wellness.
• Provides substance use disorder case management services by assessing needs; making referrals to health care, social services, and community resources; monitoring and following up on services.
• Serve as a mentor, advocate, and role model to clients to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
• Conduct harm reduction services, including syringe exchange, naloxone distribution, and overdose education in-office and in the community.
• Participate in Quick Response Team (QRT) outreach activities with community partners.
• Maintain accurate project logs, reports, and client data in required systems.
• Manage inventory of harm reduction supplies.
• Build effective working relationships with colleagues, community agencies, and the public.
• Represent Summit County Public Health professionally at community events.
• Utilize Google and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Google Workspace, etc)
• Follow all regulations, policies, and emergency response requirements, including availability for 24/7 emergency service when needed.

Summit County Public Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Supporter to work full-time (35 hours per week) , Monday through Friday, in our Harm Reduction program. The schedule for this role is 8 AM-4 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10 AM-6 PM on Wednesdays. The Peer Recovery Supporter offers peer-based support to individuals in recovery, empowering them to make healthier choices and maintain long-term wellness. The role connects clients with health care, social services, and community resources, while also providing harm reduction services such as syringe exchange, naloxone distribution, and overdose education. This role actively engages in community outreach to promote public health and support recovery across the community.

Compensation & Total Rewards

This is a full-time position with a standard 35-hour work week.

• Compensation: $40,349.40 annually (equivalent to $22.17 per hour working 35 hours per week).
• Retirement: Secure future planning through the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 2-3 years volunteer or paid experience in a peer recovery support position
• Certification as a Peer Recovery Supporter or able to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. See Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for more information on eligibility.
• Meet requirements under Ohio Administrative Code as a QBHS (Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist)- CMS.
• Valid driver's license, liability insurance, automobile available.
