Job summary

Center for Family Services is seeking a Peer Recovery Support Specialist to help parents and caregivers involved with child protection services achieve recovery and family stability.

The role leverages lived recovery experience or family member recovery principles to provide outreach, advocacy, service linkage and role modeling in diverse community settings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 continuous years in recovery or as a family member practicing recovery principles.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must hold valid driver’s license and be willing to transport clients in agency vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Build trust with parents/caregivers to support recovery and service engagement.
  • Educate families on navigating treatment, recovery and social services.
  • Provide outreach and engagement (in-person, phone, home visits) to promote sustained recovery.
  • Develop and monitor individualized Recovery Plans with the parent/caregiver.
  • Deliver direct client services at least 75% of work time.

Position Summary:

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) leverages their lived experience with substance use recovery or as a family member affected by substance use to support and empower parents/caregivers involved with child protection services. The PRSS offers hope and practical support through engagement, advocacy, service linkage, and role modeling to help individuals achieve recovery and family stability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build trusting relationships with parents/caregivers to support recovery and engagement in services.
  • Educate families on navigating treatment, recovery, and social service systems.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating recovery principles and personal responsibility.
  • Provide outreach and engagement (in-person, phone, home visits) to promote sustained recovery.
  • Assist in skill-building for daily living and connecting with recovery and community resources.
  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements, contracts, and CPSAI/PRSS Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Attend Family Team Meetings, case consultations, and relevant agency or community meetings.
  • Attend DCPP meetings (including but not limited to consortiums, multidisciplinary team meetings, and plan of safe care) as required by the contract and funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with the parent/caregiver to develop and monitor individualized Recovery Plans.
  • Deliver direct client services at least 75% of work time.
  • Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Maintain documentation of all services and contacts within 24 hours.
  • Review, complete, maintain and monitor all required documentation in systems such as AWARDS, DocuSign, and/or any other electronic technology system within established timeframes in accordance with Federal, State, County, accreditation, and agency regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Advocate for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery as well as empower clients to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery.
  • Attend individual and group supervisions and attend all required staff meetings.
  • Deliver services in a culturally competent and linguistically appropriate manner, ensuring alignment with program and client needs.
  • Uphold agency policies, complete all required documentation and participate in ongoing training.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 continuous sustained years in recovery or 2 years as a family member practicing recovery principles.
  • High school diploma or GED required (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Must hold valid driver's license and be willing to drive and transport clients in agency vehicle. This position is an essential driving position.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening, agency motor vehicle background check, and criminal history background check.
  • Holds active CPRS certificate, or will obtain CPRS certification within 18 months of hire date.
