Job summary

Center for Family Services is seeking an experienced Peer Support Specialist for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC). This 24-hour psychiatric crisis center serves adults in need of structured support and therapeutic interventions for up to 24 hours.

Responsibilities include trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented activities, documentation, and coordination of transportation. Certification as CPRS/NCPRSS/CRSP is required, plus lived experience and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must have lived experience relevant to the population served and at least two years of recovery.
• Certification as CPRS, NCPRSS, CRSP, or other DMHAS-approved credential.
• Demonstration of positive decision making skills personally and professionally
• Must have current Driver's License and a clean driving record in past 3 years

Responsibilities

• Serve as a resource to consumers and support persons on recovery-related topics.
• Use lived experience with mental health services to assist others.
• Greet consumers and help acclimate them to the stabilization center.
• Provide supportive companionship and apply trauma-informed care.
• Facilitate group activities promoting recovery, wellness, and coping skills.
• Complete paperwork accurately and timely; report incidents per policy.
• Coordinate transportation services for clients as needed.
• Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and performance improvement activities.

Program Summary

Center For Family Services is seeking experienced and professional Peer Support Specialist for the Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center (CRSC). This is a 24-hour psychiatric crisis center for adults experiencing a mental health crisis. The Crisis Receiving Stabilization Center provides a nurturing and supportive environment where our consumers can receive therapeutic interventions for up to 24 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as resource to other consumers and support persons (such as friends and family members identified by the consumer) on issues related to the effective management of mental illness in areas such as symptom reduction, relapse prevention, stress management, social skills, depression, anxiety and healthy relationships.
• Use prior personal experiences with mental health services in a positive manner for consumers/families
• Greet consumers upon entry into the stabilization center, assist them in acclimating to the environment.
• Provide supportive companionship to consumers.
• Apply trauma informed care approach to consumer interactions.
• Actively listen to consumers and family members.
• Facilitate supportive group activities for consumers that promote recovery, wellness, coping skills, connection, and stabilization.
• Support the concept/philosophy of wellness and recovery.
• Provide consumers and support persons with information about how to obtain information about behavioral health issues and services available.
• Help consumers and support persons understand the behavioral health systems in New Jersey.
• Complete all assigned paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely manner.
• Complete incident reports according to policy in a timely, accurate manner.
• Communicate with other staff as necessary to promote quality consumer care.
• Participate in required staff trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
• Participate in Center and Program performance improvement activities.
• Provide (using program vehicle) and/or arrange for transportation services for clients to afford access to services as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and in accordance with program policies, training, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• The Peer Specialist must have lived experience relevant to the population served and at least two years of recovery.
• Must hold certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS), Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP), or other DMHAS-approved Peer Specialist credential.
• Demonstration of positive decision making skills personally and professionally
• Must have current Driver's License and excellent driving record with no violations in the past 3 years.
