Job summary

Alpharus Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist I in Lake Villa, IL to provide recovery-oriented support to patients with substance use disorders. You will foster hope and empowerment, develop individualized recovery plans, and participate in treatment team meetings to coordinate care.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, 1 year of mental health knowledge, and the ability to obtain certification within 1 year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of mental health and/or substance use knowledge and experience.
• Ability to participate and complete required supervised work experience and obtain a certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 1 year of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to engage patients during recovery.
• Interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills to assess needs and develop plans.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Familiarity with recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction approaches.
• Ability to learn and use electronic health records for documentation.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a caseload for residential and outpatient services.
• Conducts assessments to identify support needs and develops individualized recovery plans.
• Provides 20-25 hours/week of direct peer support in person, by phone, or virtually.
• Documents recovery plans and progress notes in the EHR per policy.
• Identifies community resources and connects patients to services.
• Assists with coordinating transportation to services.
• Identifies relapse prevention strategies and helps build a recovery-focused social network.
• Participates in interdisciplinary case staffing and peer recovery team meetings.
