POSITION SUMMARY

The Peer Recovery specialist provides non-clinical, recovery-oriented support services to individuals with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring mental health conditions. Utilizing personal lived experience in recovery, the Peer Recovery Specialist serves as a mentor, advocate, and resource navigator while promoting hope, self-determination, and sustained recovery. They work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary treatment team to engage individuals in treatment, reduce barriers to recovery, and connect clients with community resources. The Peer Recovery Specialist functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients in Outpatient Services under the direction of a Program Therapist and supervision of the Director of Outpatient Services. The Peer Recovery Specialist promotes facility values and philosophies in all aspects of treatment practice, in accordance with HBH policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws and regulation and licensure accreditation standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrated personal lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder and/or co-occurring mental health disorder.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of continuous recovery preferred or required depending on credential.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in electronic documentation.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance (if travel is required).
Licensure: Required Certifications (Indiana)

The employee must possess one of the following Indiana-recognized peer recovery credentials or obtain the required certification within the timeframe established by the employer:

  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) through ICAADA (preferred for substance use treatment programs).
  • Certified Peer Recovery Coach-Associate (CPRC-A) through ICAADA (entry-level credential that may be accepted while working toward full CPRC).
  • Certified Peer Support Professional (CPSP) through the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA), when accepted by the employing organization or payer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in substance use disorder treatment or recovery services.
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, and Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  • Assume responsibilities for the completion of all patient care responsibilities and other assigned duties.
  • Assure that patient's rights are upheld.
  • Comply with established measures for infection control, OSHA regulations, and risk management, Indiana DOH, CMS, and The Joint Commission.
  • Comply with the Employee Code of Ethics.
  • Adhere to all facility and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuous Performance Improvement activities.
ADDITIONAL STANDARDS
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

This is a contracted position with approximately 10 hours per week. Pay will be based on the contract agreement.
