Job summary

Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist for the Dover Hopes and Dreams Drop-in Center. You will support clients in building social skills, developing a recovery support system, and learning coping strategies to sustain long-term wellness.

The role requires that you be a peer in recovery, with at least two years in recovery, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. Pay starts at $18/hour with commensurate growth and benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years in recovery.
  • Must be a peer; candidate in recovery encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Support clients in building social skills to aid job acquisition.
  • Educate and empower clients to develop a stable recovery support system.
  • Assist with self-care, coping skills and recovery wellness goals.
  • Model coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Carry out duties from Peer Recovery Supervisor.
  • Assist clients in articulating recovery and wellness objectives.
  • Teach clients recovery facilitation and positive self-talk strategies.
  • Provide problem-solving guidance for individuals and groups.
  • Complete wellness plans and coordinate referrals to outside agencies.

Who Are We

Since 1985, Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. (BCCS) has been a trusted provider of outstanding substance abuse and behavioral health treatment. BCCS is a community organization that prides itself on helping members of our community recover with dignity. We enhance the quality of life by creatively providing Education, Advocacy, Prevention, Early Intervention, and Treatment Services. We promote hope and empowerment to persons and families touched by mental illness, substance abuse, HIV and multiple occurring diagnoses, and their related challenges.

What You’ll Do with Us as a Peer Recovery Specialist
  • Supports clients in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition.
  • Educate and empower individuals by assisting them in developing a strong, stable recovery support system
  • Assist individuals with self-care and self-awareness, encouragement and support, teaching coping skills and teaching the positive benefits of long-term recovery
  • Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Peer Recovery Supervisor.
  • Supports clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and wellness and the objectives necessary to reach his or her recovery and wellness goals.
  • Teaches clients how to facilitate their recovery
  • Teaches clients techniques for identifying and combatting negative self-talk, identifying, and overcoming fears.
  • Teaches and role models the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
  • Utilizes and teaches problem-solving techniques with individuals and groups.
  • Completes wellness plans- makes appropriate referrals to outside agencies
Qualifications
  • REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED
  • REQUIRED: Valid driver's license with 2 points or less
  • REQUIRED: Must be a peer. BCCS employs a diverse workforce, and we especially encourage applications from those who are in recovery. This position requires that the candidate chosen for it is a peer. BCCS defines a peer as anyone who is in recovery from addiction to drugs, alcohol, or mental health.
  • REQUIRED: Minimum of 2 years’ in recovery
  • PREFERRED: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS). If you are not certified, certification is required within the first year of employment.
Schedule
  • Monday - Friday
  • 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Pay
  • Starting at $18/hour
  • Commensurate based on experience, education, and certification!
