They are willing to self-identify on that basis and effectively shares about their personal lived experience in a way that fosters a healthy relationship, centered on each person exploring wellness, challenges, and new ways of thinking about life and challenges. It is required that a person has experienced substance use challenges as part of their life story to be employed as a Peer Recovery Partner.

Summary

A Peer Recovery Partner provides one-on-one support and outreach to people in the community, at their homes, and/or at the location where the peer works, such as substance use treatment programs or emergency department. They are willing to self-identify on that basis and effectively shares about their personal lived experience in a way that fosters a healthy relationship, centered on each person exploring wellness, challenges, and new ways of thinking about life and challenges. It is required that a person has experienced substance use challenges as part of their life story to be employed as a Peer Recovery Partner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Peer Support relationships with people requesting support through one-on-one meetings and telephone conversations via the Intentional Peer Support model
  • Practice with individuals a “multiple pathways to recovery” approach in a humanizing and uplifting manner.
  • Manage conflict appropriately, within the team and with people in the program Receive and remain current on training as a Recovery Coach and/or Intentional Peer Support Specialist.
  • Help carry out outreach and engagement activities
  • Advocate for individuals to receive needed community resources related to substance use and more (housing, employment, cash assistance, education, transportation etc) as needed
  • Collaborate with substance use peer support team to stay current on relevant training materials on harm reduction, domestic violence, poverty, and navigating advocacy in healthcare systems

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Some college coursework preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Completion of, or ability to complete relevant training to the position required. This may be the State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) Certification. Provisional CIPSS Certification may be required within 9 months of start date. If CIPSS is required, the ability to maintain certification is required. Recovery Coach training may also be required upon hire or within 9 months of start date. Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required
  • Experience: Experience providing one-on-one and/or group facilitation peer support preferred.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Is receiving or has received services and/or supports related a history of substance use, is in active recovery and is willing to self-identify on this basis with peers and in the community. Computer proficiency required.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A
