Job summary

Mount Rogers Community Services Board is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist for its Supportive Housing Program in Virginia. The role provides peer recovery services, counseling, and mentoring to individuals with SMI and/or SUD within PSH, AGSH, or PHA programs.

The specialist uses lived experience to support recovery and advocate for individual choice and self-determination. Responsibilities include documenting progress, co-facilitating wellness classes, and assisting in accessing benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or college degree preferred in human services.
• Experience in mental health services (paid or volunteer) preferred.
• Pass Peer Certification Exam or be eligible to sit for the exam.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer recovery services to individuals with SUD and/or SMI.
• Provide peer counseling to validate experiences and support recovery goals.
• Assist individuals in identifying recovery goals and objectives.
• Monitor progress and communicate with the treatment team, using recovery coaching and mentoring.
• Document individual progress for permanent records.
• Co-facilitate health, wellness, and WRAP classes and provide mentoring.
• Help individuals set up and sustain self-help groups and provide transportation when needed.
• Assist staff in creating recovery-supportive environments.
