Responsibilities

The Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) plays a vital role in Catholic Charities of Onondaga County (CCOC), primarily based at the Housing Services Center. The PRC responds promptly to service requests from various CCOC programs and works closely with the Program Manager to triage referrals and maintain a caseload of 12 clients, known as journeyers, who are facing challenges related to opioid/substance use and mental health disorders. Through regular meetings, the PRC supports journeyers in developing their personal recovery and wellness goals, while also exploring opportunities in areas such as health, employment, education, life skills, and spirituality. The PRC actively participates in supervision sessions, attends staff meetings and clinical supervisions, and maintains accurate documentation. Building relationships and fostering inclusivity are key aspects of the role, as the PRC respects and appreciates the diverse cultural backgrounds and practices of clients and stakeholders. Additionally, the PRC serves as a knowledgeable resource, ensuring professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to guidelines and policies established by CCOC and its funding sources.

This is a Full Time Position at 35 Hours a Week. Pay For This Position is $20.00 Per Hour.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Human Services.
  • Associates degree in Human Services or related field with two years of relevant experience, preferably in the mental health and/or physical disabilities field.
  • Experience in mentoring individuals in self-help and advocacy activities, as well as facilitating groups.
  • Must have personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorder and recovery in the public mental health and/or substance use treatment systems.
  • Candidates must identify as someone in recovery with at least two years of personal recovery and wellness success.
  • Strong personal knowledge and experience of mental health and/or substance use disorders and recovery in the public mental health system.

Licenses/Certificate/Clearances:

  • Valid N.Y.S. Driver's License and registered & insured vehicle.
  • Successful completion of OMH clearance.
  • Preferred minimum of provisional certifications as both Certified Peer Specialist and Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) at the time of employment or within 6 months of starting.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of peer support and strength-based peer practices.
  • Understanding of natural supports.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and operations, including Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
  • Customer engagement skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with mental health services and community resources.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as fax, copier, scanner, printer, and telephone.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Mobility sufficient for driving to and participating in meetings at client's homes and community facilities that may not meet Federal accessibility standards.
  • Manual dexterity necessary for working with children and adults in a challenging and active environment.
