Job summary

Two Bridges Shelter in New York, NY is seeking a Peer Specialist to support residents with advocacy and counseling as they move toward permanent housing. The role requires experience in peer advocacy for homeless or disabled individuals and emphasizes coordination with Recovery/Social Work staff.

The position is onsite, with a 9:00am-5:30pm Monday-Friday schedule, and offers comprehensive health benefits, retirement, paid time off, and additional wellness and development programs.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing peer advocacy services to people who are homeless or have disabilities.
  • Past or current recipient of mental health, substance services, or homeless services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and assist residents to participate in rehabilitation goals and community life.
  • Assist Wellness and community integration groups with staff.
  • Help residents access services and benefits in collaboration with Entitlements Counselor.
  • Provide motivational interviewing and participate in length-of-stay reviews.
  • Assist residents in identifying community resources before and after moving to housing.
  • Facilitate resident socialization and self-help groups.
  • Advocate for residents in the facility and community; escort to appointments if needed.
  • Maintain communication with residents and document activities and observations.
