Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant in Winston-Salem, NC, to support exam workflows by obtaining vital signs, documenting health information, performing labs, and assisting Physicians/APPs with procedures. You will administer routine medications under approved orders and ensure smooth clinic flow with clear patient communication.

The role requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program, BLS certification, and active CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA/NRCMA/NCMSMA/NRMA credentials.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with patients, team members and physicians.
• Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows navigation, and use of electronic medical records systems.
• Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information.
• Performs laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and infection control guidelines.
• Assists the Physician/APP with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
• Administers routine medications under orders or standing orders/protocols.
• Refers questions to Registered Nurses and Physician/APC per scope and relays information to patient as directed.
• Communicates with Physician/APP and health care team to ensure clinic flow and communicate with patient.
• May perform basic/advanced clinical tasks such as removal of sutures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, etc., under supervision.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate care and understanding of growth and development; adheres to department policies.
