Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a scheduling coordinator to manage administrative duties for surgical operations, coordinate OR block time, and connect referrals with specialty services. You will also coordinate complex scheduling across departments and assist with patient flow.

The role involves interviewing patients and families to gather demographics and financial information, entering data for registration and billing, and securing insurance authorizations.

Qualifications

• One to three years of experience in surgery scheduling or complex scheduling in healthcare.
• Experience using computerized surgery scheduling systems.
• Epic Cadence or comparable EMR experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Schedules patient appointments when needed, including referrals, ensuring OR block time is utilized.
• Coordinates combined surgical cases with other physician practices across the organization.
• Schedules surgical cases for specialized diagnosis.
• Schedules physicians for surgery at outside facilities.
• Coordinates all aspects of scheduling, including procedure, equipment, and resources.
• Manages department and provider surgical case calendars.
• Interviews patients and families to obtain accurate demographic and financial information.
• Ensures that all questionnaires and forms are completed at scheduling time.
• Enters data into system for registration, billing, patient tracking, charge capture, and reconciliation.
• Confirms insurance coverage and obtains authorizations for surgical procedures.
• Acts as lead for surgical cases.
• Interacts with departments across the hospital to ensure insurance authorization is in place.
• May initiate appeals to insurance payor for denied surgical cases.
