Job summary

Children's Wisconsin seeks a SANE nurse to provide compassionate care to pediatric sexual assault victims and to perform medical-forensic exams as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The role requires SANE credentials, nursing licensure (ADN/BSN) with BSN preferred, and ongoing training including Wisconsin SANE-A/P within 3 months of hire. This is a casual on-call position with orientation and education requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
• Specialty experience in women's health, emergency department or intensive care preferred.
• Maintain SANE credentials.
• Attend minimum of 80 percent of all SANE staff meetings and/or participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
• Maintain clinical education hours relevant to sexual assault, forensics, or pediatric subspecialty (minimum 12 hours per calendar year).
• Membership in professional organizations such as the International Association of Forensic Nurses and American College of Forensic Examiners is strongly recommended.
• Attend a minimum of 2 court proceedings per calendar year deemed significant for observation by the SANE Clinical Coordinator/Program Director.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred.
• Current CPR certification - BLS for Healthcare Providers is required.
• Completion of Wisconsin SANE-A and SANE-P didactic training within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the pediatric sexual assault victim.
• SANE exam may include medical-forensic exam, pregnancy and STI prophylaxis, photographic documentation, and referrals for medical and psychological follow-up and legal participation.
• Interact with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers; delegate patient care activities to unlicensed staff where appropriate.
• Represent the organization professionally and promote a positive image of services.
