Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a registered nurse to provide comprehensive patient care within an integrated health system across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. You will administer medications, perform assessments, and develop patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the care team.

This role emphasizes education for patients and families, participation in quality improvement, and mentoring new staff, with opportunities for professional certification and advancement.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years RN experience with a certification.
  • Licensed as an RN in state of practice and CPR/BLS within 90 days.
  • Other certifications per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
  • Professional Nursing Certification or Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Hiring post-09/01/2024 may require Certification Completion Agreement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUtilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws/practice act.Performs assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation of careDocuments according to standards of care.Develops initiates and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.Utilizes resources available to teach and support patient and family education. Provides education to the appropriate level of understanding.Acts to resolve systems breakdowns and engages self and others in providing solutions.Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.Utilizes clinical expertise & guidance to other units/departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.Utilizes critical thinking in regards to patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit/department practice activities and decisions and peer review process.Positively influences the professional and organizational environments and shared governance.Engages in personal development and supports system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth including developing or revising evidenced-based practice guidelines.Actively participates in mentoring and precepting new partners to organization.Offers ideas and/or solutions to practice issuesUses innovative methods and intuitive skills to develop and implement plans of careProvides innovative ways to educate patient/familiesInitiates interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the patient/family educational needsIL: 20 Continuing Education Units (10 of these required for IL licensure) or WI: 20 Education HoursActively participates in a minimum of 1 departmental or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited nursing program.ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.Minimum 2 years RN experience with a certification.CERTIFICATION/LICENSURELicensed as an RN in state of practiceApproved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 daysOther certification(s) per unit requirements.
