Job summary

Nicklaus Children's Health System in Florida seeks a registered nurse to assess, plan, implement, and supervise patient care on a pediatric nursing unit. The role supports patient rights, adheres to policies, and works under supervision of the Manager/Director.

Key duties include communicating patient status to physicians, planning and documenting the care plan with interdisciplinary teams, teaching patients and families, and ensuring safe anesthesia/sedation management and recovery.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Florida or Multi-State eNLC; active and in good standing
• BLS (AHA) in good standing
• PALS certification within 2 years of hire
• BSN degree or current BSN enrollment

Responsibilities

• Communicates patient progress, critical findings, and changes to physicians and care team.
• Plans and documents the plan of care with other disciplines for safe, efficient care.
• Conducts ongoing patient assessment and provides patient/parent teaching before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintains patient dignity, confidentiality, and advocates for the patient.
• Reviews and plans for sedation/anesthesia history and related meds and history
• Prepares for potential sedation complications and monitors recovery per policy
• Evaluates response to sedation and communicates findings to team
• Obtains informed consents as needed and provides discharge instructions
• Documents in EMR accurately and timely; access as allowed by policy
• Ensures safe medication administration following the Six Rights
• Promotes infection prevention and thorough hand-offs to reduce errors
• Initiates IV access and urinary catheter placement per policy
• Assesses systems to deliver safe, effective care and minimize pain
• Ensures no infections and skin integrity is maintained
