Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center seeks a Student Playroom Assistant to support pediatric patients within the Child Life team. You will facilitate group and bedside play to reduce anxiety and promote development, while gaining hands-on experience in a premier clinical setting.

The role requires enrollment in undergraduate/post-baccalaureate/graduate coursework, with shifts Mon-Fri and a commitment of at least 18 hours per week for one year. Prior child/family care experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate coursework.
• Strong preference for majors in Child Life, Nursing, Pre-Med, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Organize and oversee safe, developmentally appropriate group activities in the playrooms, including imaginative play, arts and crafts, and games.
• Conduct bedside visits to provide recreational play activities for patients unable to come to the playrooms.
• Maintain infection control by sanitizing toys, play surfaces, and equipment before and after use.
• Share behavioral observations with staff and assist Certified Child Life Specialists with volunteers.
• Assist with coordination of external visitors, performers, and special events.
