Job summary

Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a Patient Education Specialist to provide individualized instruction that helps patients maintain academic continuity during treatment or hospitalization. You’ll adapt curriculum and learning tools to meet each patient’s cognitive, emotional, physical, and academic needs.

You will deliver bedside, one-on-one, virtual, and classroom sessions, develop lesson plans, and create IEPs and 504 accommodations for students from pre-kindergarten through high school.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, special education, or related field.
• Texas Standard Teaching Certificate required.
• Three years of instructional experience, including interpreting neuropsychological evaluations, required.
• Three years of teaching experience in a hospital or specialized school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized instruction bedside, one-on-one, virtual, and classroom sessions.
• Develop lesson plans aligned with curricula, IEPs, and 504 plans.
• Administer and interpret neuropsychological, academic, behavioral assessments.
• Create IEPs and 504 accommodations for pre-K through high school.
• Coordinate with families to support enrollment and instruction.
• Use multisensory learning and diverse instructional strategies.
• Track attendance, engagement, progress, grades, and interventions.
• Collaborate with home-school professionals for assignments and materials.
• Utilize SMART Boards and teleconferencing to support instruction.
• Align educational services with patient care needs as part of the care team.
• Educate school personnel and families about illness impact on learning.
• Develop patient-centered educational programs including summer, vocational, and quality-improvement initiatives.
• Maintain knowledge of educational laws and advocacy.
