Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab seeks a Physical Therapist to help pediatric patients reach maximum functional performance. The role uses modalities such as heat, ultrasound, and exercise while evaluating motor and neurological status.

You will evaluate, educate families, and customize treatment plans, coordinating with physicians and care teams. Expect strong emphasis on collaboration, continuous learning, and patient-centered outcomes.

Qualifications

• Interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, patients and families.
• Strong communication skills with patients and care teams.
• Analytical ability to assess patient needs and prioritize care.
• Current CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates patient physical and functional status including strength, motor skills, reflexes and ADLs.
• Interviews patient, reviews medical history, and administers sensory tests and ROM exams.
• Determines treatment suitability based on evaluation results and applies modalities as needed (heat, ultrasound, etc.).
• Sets therapy goals and develops a plan including exercises, balance activities and gait training.
• Documents progress and communicates with physicians and insurers.
• Orders devices to assist activity (wheelchairs, canes, prosthetics).
• May participate in student education and department teaching.
• Contributes to research projects as needed.
