Job summary

Shriners Children’s is seeking an outpatient Medical Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under supervision. You will assist with examinations, procedures, wound care, and minor surgeries, perform basic labs, and help with referrals to ensure efficient clinic flow.

You will administer medications per physician directions, educate patients on plans and home care, and maintain accurate EHR records. Strong communication with patients and care teams is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and nurses with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments, including minor surgical procedures, wound care, and casting/splinting.
• Perform basic laboratory tests as directed, including specimen collection, processing, and documentation.
• Administer medications as directed by a physician, adhering to the five rights of medication administration.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and home care instructions.
• Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and assist with referral coordination.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including electronic health records (EHR) documentation
• Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring cleanliness, stocking of supplies, and proper functioning of equipment.
• Greet and escort patients to examination rooms, taking vital signs, obtaining and documenting patient medical history, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
