Job summary

Gillette Children's seeks a Casting Specialist to join our pediatric orthopedics team, working at the Burnsville and St. Paul campuses. You will apply all types and complexities of casts under supervision, ensuring safe, accurate care and clear patient education.

Hours vary with a Friday-Monday on-call rotation and Saturday coverage; compensation is hourly with a strong benefits package including retirement match, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and health and wellness programs.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with patients in a clinic or hospital setting, or completion of a medical-related degree.
• Current CPR certification (BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association or obtain certification within 90-days of hire).
• Travel to offsite clinics.

Responsibilities

• Work as an integral part of the casting team to provide consistent delivery of quality patient care.
• Accurately evaluate prescriptions and effectively communicate with providers.
• Provide patient care per Gillette, Joint Commission quality standards.
• Independently apply all types and complexities of casting and/or splinting as assigned by the department supervisor.
• Maintain safe patient handling including lifting, transfers, and positioning, requesting assistance when necessary.
• Complete the comprehensive training checklist per department requirements.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to determine proper intervention.
• Assist with training for all types of casting and splinting as assigned by casting supervisor.
• Provide proper cast care instructions to patients and families per Gillette's policies.
• Complete documentation promptly detailing events of the appointment and follow-up plan.
• Ensure work areas and exam rooms are clean and orderly to promote safety.
