Job summary

Children's Wisconsin is seeking an ophthalmic technician to administer diagnostic tests, assist ophthalmologists, and teach patients and families in home care within a pediatric health system in Wisconsin.

The role requires knowledge of eye anatomy, proficiency with vision tests, and the ability to stand for extended periods; BLS certification is preferred and patient education is a key component of care.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic eye anatomy and physiology and ophthalmic tests.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with children and families.
• Physical ability to walk/stand for extended periods and assist with patient care procedures.

Responsibilities

• Administers and performs diagnostic ophthalmic tests per physician's order.
• Performs retinoscopy and vision field tests as required.
• Assists with contact lens fitting and dispensing.
• Explains procedures to patient/family and provides home care instructions.
• Prepares reports and maintains charting; communicates patient progress with the physician.
