Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to provide clinical, laboratory, and clerical support in our hospital. Under supervision of nursing and physicians, you will perform patient preparation, take vital signs, collect specimens, help with examinations, and greet and direct patients.

This role participates in NY HELPS; applicants must meet minimum qualifications: one year of health care clinical/clerical experience or completion of a medical assistant program; preferred

Qualifications

• One year of full-time experience performing clinical and clerical support activities in a health care setting or completion of a medical assistant program.
• Experience using EMR systems preferred.
• BLS/Heart Saver certification and current Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform screening and vital signs (height, weight, BP, pulse, temp, EKG).
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
• Greet and direct patients; answer phones and route calls.
• Prepare patient information packets and assist with specimen collection.
• Order supplies and maintain stock in patient care areas.
