Summary:
Under nursing administration and in clinical collaboration with a physician, incumbents of this class provide comprehensive primary care in the area of pediatric BMT/Oncology. This includes health education, preventive medicine, communicable diseases, and education, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. Incumbents provide primary medical care, including examinations, assessments, diagnostics, and therapeutic procedures. Supervision may be a function of this class, and instructional guidance is provided to nursing and other healthcare professionals in the area of expertise. Performs related work as required.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Master's of Nursing Program. License, Certification, and Registration: Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Education as a Registered Professional Nurse, and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription writing privileges, issued by the New York State Department of Education in the area of practice. Preferred qualifications: Two years of experience in Pediatric or Adult Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Oncology, Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine. National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (APHON), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification are required for all Nurse Practitioners providing direct patient care.
