Position Summary

Posting Note: Phoenix Children’s is seeking a pediatric nephrologist to join the largest pediatric nephrology program in the Southwest.

The group includes 6 board certified nephrologists and a nurse practitioner. The team provides clinic coverage in six satellite locations in the valley in addition to clinics in Tucson and Yuma. The physicians are active in multi-disciplinary clinics across the hospital including Spina Bifida, Fontan, Stone Clinic, and several others.

The Nephrology division is active inpatient care, providing inpatient service across 484 inpatient beds, including 153 intensive care beds (PICU, CVICU, NICU). Phoenix Children’s currently has Arizona’s only dedicated pediatric dialysis center providing outpatient and inpatient hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, including an active CRRT program. Phoenix Children’s also has the states only dedicated Pediatric Kidney Transplant Program.

Our physical footprint is expanding. It is all to ensure Arizona families have access to high-quality healthcare – right in their own communities. With a comprehensive quaternary children’s hospital, a free-standing emergency department, two additional community hospital locations opening in 2024, and more than 40 sites of care and clinics, we deliver high-quality care for communities throughout the Southwest. We are made up of more than 1,500 medical staff providers who address health challenges from the everyday to the most complex and from the earliest years onward. Alongside our colleagues, collaborators, and communities, we are elevating pediatric care, education, and innovation so we can all grow healthier together.

Phoenix Children’s has academic appointments at University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, Mayo Medical School, and Creighton Medical School.

Position Requirements

Successful candidates must have:

  • MD/DO
  • BC in Pediatrics and BE/BC in Pediatric Nephrology
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to advance clinical programs and research.

The staff physician shall provide patient care services and will support the PCH mission of providing hope, healing and the best health care for children and their families.

Position Duties

  • Patient Care Services
  • Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
  • Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis
  • Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures
  • Provide these services for urgent/ emergent care as necessary
  • Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care
  • Support Hospital’s patient satisfaction goals as well as division’s specific targets
  • Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards
  • Practices Contemporary Evidence based medicine or latest experience based medicine
  • Divisional Responsibilities
  • Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g. individual, division, hospital)
  • Support the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
  • Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
  • Conduct teaching rounds, lectures and conference for trainees
  • Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division
  • Participate in the postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division
  • Support the research endeavors of the division including the research initiatives by other members of the division
  • Support programmatic growth of division
  • Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate
  • Professionalism
  • Treat colleagues, PCH employees and customers with courtesy, dignity and respect
  • Promote safe, cooperative and professional health care environment
  • Support PCH mission, vision and values, including family centered care, excellence in clinical care, leadership, collaboration, and accountability
  • Other activities
  • Physician shall support the Division Chief in his/her role as liaison to the professional community and general public as requested by the Division Chief
  • Physician may conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of PCH, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs/ initiatives.
  • Physician shall represent PCH in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner
  • The following physical and mental skills are essential to the physician’s ability to successfully perform the foregoing duties and responsibilities:
  • The ability to communicate by telephone, computer or other communication devices
  • The ability to perform after hours or night call responsibilities as needed
  • The ability to work regularly scheduled work hours
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
