Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Dietitian II to apply evidence-based medical nutrition therapy across all ages identified with nutrition risk. You will assess nutritional needs, deliver therapy, and educate patients while integrating within a multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes.

You will guide new graduates and Dietitian I staff, ensuring high standards of care and ongoing professional development within department budgets and policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Food & Nutrition or related area is required.
• Master’s degree required if registration obtained after Jan 1, 2024.
• CDR registration and licensing with TDLR required; CPR certification required or obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and formulates nutrition care plans based on physician referrals or nurse screenings.
• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to set nutrition-related goals and develop care plans.
• Oversees medical nutrition therapy appropriate for patient age and condition.

Job Summary

The Dietitian II is responsible for the application of evidence based medical nutrition therapy for the evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages identified as possessing nutrition risk. Areas of responsibility include assessment of nutritional needs, provision of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education. The incumbent functions on a multi-disciplinary team as a resource and shares expertise to improve patient outcomes with physician staff and others. The Dietitian II will provide guidance and assistance to new graduates and Dietitian I positions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Food & Nutrition or related area. Master’s required if registration obtained after Jan 1, 2024.
• Licenses/Certifications: Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required; CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association or obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years of clinical nutrition experience required with a Bachelor’s degree, one (1) year with a Master’s degree, or zero years with a Doctoral degree. After one (1) year of employment, must obtain career ladder criteria to maintain level II classification. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint). Proficient competency in nutritional care and skills. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Principal Accountabilities

• Interprets and formulates a complete, comprehensive nutrition care plan for patients with physician’s referral or registered nurse screening referral based on evaluation findings to achieve nutrition related goals set forth by clinician.
• Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary medical team by acting as an integral asset, aiding in the establishment of nutrition related goals by developing individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status.
• Oversees medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients appropriate for their age.
• Modifies nutrition regimens according to food preferences, tolerances, and cultural and religious preferences.
• Documents nutrition care plans in the medical record, including nutrition assessment, monitoring parameters, goals and recommendations.
• Outlines nutrition education to patients and/or families that is appropriate for age, religious beliefs, and cultural background.
• Coordinates cross coverage and handles multiple demands simultaneously.
• Adheres to established policies, procedures, and standards that relate to time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skill competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
