Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System seeks a Dietitian II to support outpatient services in the Advance Heart Failure Clinic. The role provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy across ages, participates in a multidisciplinary team, and guides new grads and junior dietitians.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or related area. Master's required if registration was obtained after Jan 1, 2024.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and license with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
  • CPR Certification (Heart Saver) from American Red Cross or American Heart Association or within six months of hire
  • Two (2) years of clinical nutrition experience required with a Bachelor's degree, or one (1) year with a Master's, or zero years with a Doctoral degree
  • After one year, must meet career ladder criteria to maintain II classification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Interprets and formulates a complete nutrition care plan based on physician or nurse referrals and evaluation findings.
  • Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team to develop individualized care plans and monitor nutrition status.
  • Oversees medical nutrition therapy and adjusts regimens per patient preferences and cultural needs.
  • Documents nutrition care plans in the chart, including assessments, milestones, and recommendations.
  • Educates patients and families on nutrition according to age and cultural considerations.
  • Coordinates cross-coverage and manages multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and budgetary specifications while ensuring safe patient care.

Job Description

The Dietitian II is responsible for the application of evidence based medical nutrition therapy for the evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages identified as possessing nutrition risk. Areas of responsibility include assessment of nutritional needs, provision of medical nutrition therapy and nutrition education. The incumbent is required to function on a multi-disciplinary team as a resource and to share expertise and apply feedback to improve patient outcomes to the physician staff and others. The Dietitian II will provide guidance and assistance to new grads and dietitian I positions.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition or related area. Master's required if registration was obtained after Jan 1, 2024.

Licenses/Certifications
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
  • CPR Certification (Heart Saver only) from either American Red Cross or American Heart Association or obtained within six (6) months of hire
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
  • Two (2) years of clinical nutrition experience required with a Bachelor's degree, one (1) year of clinical nutrition experience required with a Master's degree, or zero (0) years of experience required with a Doctoral degree.
  • After one (1) year of employment, must obtain career ladder criteria to maintain level II classification.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Proficient competency in nutritional care and skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Interprets and formulates a complete, comprehensive nutrition care plan for patient with physician’s referral or registered nurse screening referral based on evaluation findings in order to obtain nutrition related goals set forth by clinician.
  • Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary medical team by acting as an integral asset by aiding in the establishment of nutrition related goal by developing individualized nutrition care plans with ongoing evaluation of nutrition status.
  • Oversees medical nutrition therapy to patients and clients appropriate for their age. Modifies nutrition regimens according to food preferences, tolerances, and cultural and religious preferences.
  • Documents nutrition care plans in the medical record, including nutrition assessment, monitoring parameters, goals and recommendations.
  • Outlines nutrition education to patients and/or families that is appropriate for age, religious beliefs, and cultural background.
  • Coordinates cross coverage and handles multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Adheres to established policies, procedures, and standards that relate to time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
