Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC seeks a Chief Nursing Officer or nursing executive to provide 24/7 leadership and accountability for strategic, operational, financial, and quality performance across pediatric and neonatal services.

The role partners with physicians and administrators to advance clinical excellence, patient safety, workforce engagement, and operational performance within a collaborative academic health system. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher degree in Nursing.
• Master's degree in a related field.
• Five years of nursing experience with at least 2 years in a management role.
• Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina.
• BLS certification.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of regulatory bodies and the Nurse Practice Act.
• Ability to manage multiple departments and locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 leadership and accountability for clinical performance across pediatric and neonatal services.
• Partner with physician, nursing, and administrative leaders to set priorities and evaluate outcomes.
• Foster a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Build, develop, and retain high-performing teams through recruitment and succession planning.
• Drive quality, safety, patient experience, and operational outcomes using data and improvement methods.
• Lead development of care delivery models aligned with organizational goals.
• Ensure effective stewardship of staffing, budgets, facilities, and equipment.
• Strengthen shared governance and collaborations across Duke Health.
