Job summary

Shriners Children’s Hospital is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant for on-site support in Lexington, KY. The MA will handle clinical, clerical, and technical duties, including patient rooming, documentation during visits, minor procedures, and telehealth support as needed.

The role requires strong communication skills, a valid Medical Assistant certification, and BLS within 30–90 days. Experience with EMR systems and HIPAA practices is preferred. Per diem schedule reflects hospital staffing needs.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA or state equivalent).
• BLS certification required within 30–90 days of hire.
• Spanish proficiency preferred.
• Familiarity with EMR systems, HIPAA, infection control and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients from waiting room to exam rooms and verify DOB and appropriate attire.
• Obtain vitals (height, weight, temperature, pulse, BP) and collect basic medical history.
• Draw blood and assist with minor procedures as needed.
• Monitor Epic DAR and coordinate with front desk, radiology and other teams for timely handoffs.
• Direct physicians and APPs to patient rooms based on DAR status.
• Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies; assist with cast room setup and cleaning if needed.
