Job summary

UNC Health Care's Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in Chapel Hill is opening a new 13-bed unit within our Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This full-time role combines Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties on a rotating schedule (7AM‑7:30PM; 7PM‑7:30AM).

The position supports care for critically ill infants, children, and adolescents with complex heart conditions, delivering patient care, clerical tasks, and transport in a compassionate, family‑centered environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Fluent spoken and written English is required.
• Ability to develop computer skills if not proficient.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and health care providers with routine examinations and procedures and procure equipment and supplies.
• Review patient care documentation for significant changes and report to a nurse or physician.
• Perform clerical tasks including filing, transcribing orders, data entry, and maintaining unit records.
• Provide clinical support such as cleaning areas, restocking supplies, transporting patients and materials, and assisting in orientation of new staff.
• Provide direct patient care as outlined in care plans, including measuring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and basic wound care.
• Reinforce patient teaching and distribute educational materials to patients and families.
